Other Public Outreach

I share my love for science in different ways. Below you will find a summary of my activities related to workshops, classrooms, guided tours, open days, and podcasts. Activities related to public speaking and writing are listed under speaking and writing experience.

Classroom Teaching/Workshops

Project ASTRO (2012/2013)

a project to foster teacher – astronomer partnerships to assist in the astronomy education of school children through regular visits (~3 a year) of the astronomer in class to lead astronomy activities (moon phases, seasons, solar system)

    • Participation in a 2-day teacher workshop
    • Visited two 4th-grade classrooms 3 times per year to give basic science classes around astronomy and space
Exoplanet workshop (2010)
  • a workshop run for the University of Portsmouth’s “UP for it” club (targeted at 11 – 16 year olds) that included a theory presentation, hands-on activities, and a comet-making demo
    • supported participants in building an exoplanet system

I also participated in the “Letters to a pre-scientist” initiative in the school year 2019/2020.

    • Night Guided Tours (usually in German) around the Landessternwarte  Heidelberg-Koenigstuhl, Heidelberg, Germany including observations with 100 year old telescope (2006-2007)
